Demerara edge Berbice by 10 runs

A thrilling low scoring encounter between arch rivals Demerara and Berbice ended with the former team claiming victory by 10 runs at the Enmore Community Development Centre Ground on Wednesday when the second round of the Guyana Cricket Board Dave West Indian Imports Under 15 Inter County Championships continued.
For a second time in two days Demerara skipper Shoib Shaw top scored for his team. This time around he made 36 out of his team 109-9 from 50 overs, before they return to dismiss the visitors for 99 in 49.3 overs.
Shaw was supported by talented all-rounder Chad Shivrattan, who made 17 after surprisingly missing out on the first match. A total of 32 extras contributed significantly to the hosts’ score.
Gourav Ramesh snatched three wickets to spearhead Berbice’s bowling while Abdur Ramsammy 1-8 from 10 overs and Daniel Dasrat 1-21 from 10 overs were also impressive.

However, Berbice batsmen were not as effective as their bowlers as they folded under 100 to Chandrapaul Ramraj, who bagged 4-21 from 9.3 overs.
Negusa Walters and Andre Seepersaud helped to contain the Berbice batsmen while collecting a wicket each.
Meanwhile, in the City Essequibo had an easier task winning their match against the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) President XI. Winning the match by 59 runs at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
Essequibo won the toss and chose to bat as national u-15 player Sheldon Charles led them to 177-7 with a top score of 38. He shared in an opening stand worth 57 runs with fellow opener Chateran Searattan, who made 18.
Several of the Essequibian batsmen reached double figures but only Charles made it past 20. Left arm orthodox spinner Ryan Atkinson was the President’s XI most destructive bowler.
In pursuit of the target, President’s XI fell for 118 in 48.2 overs, with Shammar Yearwood scoring 29 as Wasim Mohamed 3-18 and Devendra Ramdahin 2-19 led with the ball for Essequibo. The win was the first for the Cinderella County team who lost to Demerara in the first round.
The competition continues on Friday before the final is played on Sunday.
