Berbice 2017 Mash attracts hundreds

… as Govt participation dwindles

Despite the fact that several Government Ministries had no representation during the Mashramani 2017 float parade in Berbice, revellers turned out in their numbers on Sunday in New Amsterdam as the annual celebrations culminated.

The Culture, Public Health and the Indigenous People’s Ministries were represented by several officials who joined the parade. However, the Regional Health Services captured the crowd’s attention with their three bands that took to the streets.

The Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) Administration, which has never failed to wow, led the way as they portrayed a green economy under the stewardship of President David Granger. The need for renewable energy was also depicted in their Morrice Moria float.

B Division Police did not miss a step and attracted scores of teenagers behind their band, as they depicted how sports, education and culture can make safer communities.

Even with the absence of the Government Ministries’ participation, revellers enjoyed the festivities.

“Not because they ain’t come, we can’t enjoy we self,” one of the several thousand revellers told Guyana Times.

Notably absent from this year’s celebration in Region Six were the Agriculture, Indigenous People’s Affairs , Education and Communities Ministries.
