Georgetown Bears, Lower East Bank Lions, Lower East Coast Bulls and West Bank Demerara Mavericks recorded victories in the third round of the Raj Singh Insurance Brokers/Trophy Stall Over-40 T20 competition played on Wednesday at four venues in the Georgetown and West Bank Demerara.
At the Everest Cricket Club ground, Georgetown Bears edged Upper East Bank Colts by six runs.
Batting first the City side managed a commanding total of 167 for 5 with Clive Grimmond hitting a topscore of 59. He received support from Surendra Heralall with 37.
In reply the Upper East Bank Colts fell short of the winning target and eventually scored 161 for 7. Vijay Ramgobin was their main contributor with 57 while skipper Rohan Sarjoo made a fighting 37 on a losing cost.
Carlos Reid and Heralall claimed figures of 3-13 and 2-21 respectively bowling for the winners.
At the Wales Community Centre ground, Lower East Bank Lions defeated West Coast Demerara Seals by three wickets.
The eventually winners chased down 131 off 19.2 overs with Jai Singh being the rescuer with 55. He received valuable support from Latchman Persaud and Basil Persaud with 25 and 23 respectively.
In West Coast Demerara Seals’ innings B Persaud topscored with 29 while D Persaud and Rabindranauth Seeram supported with 26 not out and 24 respectively. Rakesh Gangaram picked up three wickets for one run in a disciplined bowling effort.
Batting first at the Bourda ground, Fitzroy Colley’s belligerent 77 was not enough to prevent the Georgetown Buffaloes from going down by six wickets to the Lower East Coast Bulls in their encounter.
Colley, who hammered 12 fours and one huge six in his knock, was supported by Burty Carmichael who scored 28.
In reply the Bulls registered 159 for 4 in 19.1 overs, courtesy of Man-of-the-Match Clifton Anderson who scored 58. Seemangal Yadram (29) and L Gobin (23) were the other contributors. Over at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, the East Coast Tigers suffered a 23-run defeat loss at the hands of the West Bank Demerara Mavericks, who posted a mammoth 179 for 8 from their 20 overs.
Man-of-the-match Eon Williams crafted 51 and claimed two wickets for the winning team. Emran Sullivan scored an unbeaten 37 to assist in the huge total. J Hardat 2 for 16 was the Tigers best bowler.
The East Coast team in their chase only managed 157 for 8 in their 20 overs, with contributions from Mark Malone (30) and Jagdesh Persaud (25).
The fourth round of the tournament is scheduled for Friday from 13:00h. Lower East Bank Lions will play Georgetown Buffaloes at the Everest Cricket Club ground, West Bank Demerara Mavericks taking on Georgetown Bears at the Wales Community Centre ground, Upper East Coast Tigers hosts Upper East Bank Colts at the Enmore Community Centre ground and Lower East Coast Bulls and West Coast Demerara Seals do battle at the Zeeburg Community Centre ground.
