Miner remanded for larceny

Parmanand Sonassi, a miner of Port Kaituma, Region One (Barima-Waini), appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Thursday, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he was remanded for two counts of larceny.

Sonassi pleaded not guilty to both charges, which allege that on January 17, 2017, he stole one ounce of raw gold valued $200,000; the property of D’Andre Sampson of Kumakuma Creek, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

Additionally, on the same day, the accused allegedly also stole one ounce of raw gold property of Justin Felix valued at $200,000 at Kumakuma Creek, Mazaruni River.

The man was later arrested and one ounce of gold was recovered in his possession.

He was remanded to prison until his next court hearing on February 3, at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
