Dead sheep thief ID’d as Essequibo Coast resident

The armed bandit who was killed by Police ranks in Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) on Tuesday morning during an alleged confrontation at a farm in Mount Sinai, New Amsterdam, was identified as Rondell Marks.

Marks, also called “Romel Hoppie” or “Blackie”, 34, of Suddie Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, was shot and killed by Police ranks who responded to a report of larceny of sheep.
Based on reports, a livestock farmer of Betsy Ground, East Canje, Berbice, reported that a flock of 29 sheep was stolen from his ranch at Calabash Creek, East Canje on November 12.
Further, the victim and three Police ranks, one armed with a service weapon, proceeded on Tuesday morning to a location at Lochaber Village, West Canje, where the farmer positively identified 12 of his sheep tied at the back of a farmhouse.
The ranks then proceeded towards the entrance of the farmhouse, and were immediately confronted by Marks who rushed into the house, armed himself with a handgun, and attempted to shoot the armed Policeman who had followed him indoors.
During the confrontation, the rank discharged his firearm several times at the suspect, who collapsed. The injured man was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
An unlicensed Taurus pistol and six live matching rounds were retrieved. Several articles were discovered during a search of the house, including a Plum cellular phone, two silver rings, one silver chain, a laptop computer, and other electronic gadgets. (Bhisham Mohamed)
