Have we lost all sense of national pride?

Dear Editor,
Some reactions, both objective and unduly ‘personal,’ appear to have missed the essence of my letter clarifying that rum does not equate alcoholism. Also overlooked is the important issue of ‘national pride’ in a legal Guyanese product which the rest of the world raves about.
If the Scots and Brits can revere their “Scotch” whisky, the French their wines, the Russians their vodka, the Germans their beer, the Mexicans their Tequila etc, why can’t we Guyanese be proud of our world famous rum? Of course we, like all others, must do our drinking responsibly and in this regard we all have a moral responsibility.

Regards,
Nowrang Persaud
