Canje Secondary School has become the first school to reach the quarter-finals of the Dalchand Rambharose Inter-Secondary School Under-15, Two-innings cricket competition in Berbice. In their final Zone D preliminary match, they took first innings points from Berbice High School to end on top of that zone with 12 points.
In the match, which ended in a draw and was played at the Cumberland ground, Berbice High School chose to bat first and had an opening stand of 20 between Jason Rishiram (10) and Joel Campbell (07). However, off-spinners Javon Persaud and Anthony Williams reduced them to 21-3.
Abdul Ramsammy and Robert Suntgolam then put on a valuable 43 for the fourth wicket after which Persaud struck again, removing Suntgolam for 11 at 64-4. Ramsammy continued and he and Ajay Nadisan took the score to 105 after which Ramsammy went for 37.
Berbice High did not get any further, losing their last five wickets without scoring a run, ending on 105 all out in their first innings. Persaud ended with 5-18 from seven overs.
When Canje Secondary replied, they lost an early wicket with only 11 runs on the board, but Berbice Under-15 batsmen Carl Gilgeous and Zeynul Ramsammy put on 70 for the second wicket after which Ramsammy went for 30.
Gilgeous went on to score 43, which was largely responsible for Canje Secondary reaching 106-5 after which the match was called off. Bowling for Berbice High, Devin Moses took 2-30.
