According to Gangadin, he was encouraged by his peers and other residents to participate in the just concluded Local Government Elections as a Civic member of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).
His immediate plans for the town are a compressive review of its solid waste management programme and tweak it to have the desired result, which is to have a clean town. To embark on a town-wide clean-up exercise, Gangadin said it would include all open spaces, the removal of bulk waste, and removal of derelict vehicles from street corners and roadways.
“I also have as part of my immediate plans to remove spoils and overburden from our parapets across the municipality and to clean and make available to our residents all of the abandon play grounds and recreational area.”
Speaking on issues, the Mayor-elect said solid waste management, street maintenance, drainage and the high rate of unemployment in the community are some of his major concerns.
“I also want to look at the expansion of our market, the development of our seafront especially in the vicinity of the 79 market and the constructions of a jetty or mini wharf to accommodate residents from Orealla, farmers and small-scale loggers from the Upper Corentyne River,” Gangadin said.
Also included in plans for the town under the new Mayor are the installation of flood lights at Line Path and Scottsburg playgrounds, the installation of fire hydrants in the town and the upgrading of all streets to asphaltic surfaces, which can accommodate larger and heavier vehicles.
“I feel confident that I can execute the responsibilities as Mayor because of my work experience. I managed big Private Sector companies, both local and international,” he stated confidently.
