Bandits carried out a brazen robbery on the Meten-Meer-Zorg Post office between Thursday evening and Friday morning carting off a sum of $579,918.
According to information, the time the bandits struck the post office is still sketchy, but it was confirmed that they took the large sum of cash. In addition, the bandits took a quantity of postage stamps.
Speaking with Guyana Times Friday, D Division Commander, Senior Superintendent Stephen Mansell cited that they had not ascertained the time the robbery occurred.
He said the report of the robbery was only made after staff turned up to commence work and they observed the building had been broken into.
The report was then forwarded, after which ranks promptly arrived at the scene in search of clues that would lead to the perpetrators.
Mantell disclosed that they have apprehended a few persons suspected to be involved in the robbery.
Up to yesterday afternoon, these persons were still being grilled by authorities.
It should be noted that at post offices across Guyana, during this period of the month, pensioners are scheduled to receive their monthly allowance.
It is however uncertain whether this has hindered the process for the collection of pension at the post office.
