GLTA strengthens club tennis through interclub  competitions

tennisThe Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) has progressed in strengthening club tennis through this year’s Interclub Competitions, which followed the Rebel Tennis Club successful tournament.

Interclub features competition between five clubs that formed six teams.

Sheltez Tennis Club entered two teams, while the other clubs entered one team which were Rebel, Non Pariel, La Ressouvenir and Roraima Tennis Clubs.

The match format is best of 17 games and a round robin format which means all clubs will face each other to determine the best club.

Sheltez Team A took on Roraima in the first meet of the tournament and etched the first win in a closely contested meet. Each meet has three doubles matches and two singles. One point for a doubles win and two points for a singles win.

Daniel Lopes and Nicolas Glasgow (Sheltez A) defeated Kester Abrams and Bishan Dalip 9/1, Oswin Coggins and Stephen Bailey (Roraima) defeated Kalyca Fraser and Robert Bostwick 9/4, Afruica Gentle and Mark McDonald (Shetez A) defeated Leroy Chapman and Asif Subhan 9/3.

In the singles, Roraima’s team captain, Benjattan Osborne secured a 9/4 win against Nicola Ramdyhan while his fellow team mate, Keimo Benjamin fell at the hands of Keenan Persaud 9/4 to chalk a final score of 4 points for Sheltez A and 3 points to Roraima.
