The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and Cricket Guy Inc extend heartiest congratulations to Shimron Hetmyer on scoring his first first-class century which he achieved at the Guyana National Stadium on Friday, the first day of the crucial final round match of the WICB PCL 4-Day 2015/16 between Guyana Jaguars and Jamaica Scorpions.
According to the GCB release, his positive approach to his innings was a pleasure to behold, especially since Guyana needed a strong start to a ‘must win’ match.
GCB indicated that their immediate aim is to prepare Hetmyer mentally to produce similar innings consistently and go on to build bigger innings.
“He is overflowing with confidence and talent, a natural leader, and is hungry to be one of the greats of this lovely game. We believe he would be a valuable asset to the West Indies team in the near future. Just last month he led the West Indies Under-19 team to their first ever World Cup victory; his leadership was second to none, and he also scored a match winning half century against Bangladesh in the semifinal,” the release noted
Hetmyer has been consistent in his outstanding achievements. Over the recent years, he has dominated youth cricket in Guyana and has been the most talked about and admired opening batsman in the West Indies.
“The Executives, Members and Staff of the GCB and CGI are extremely proud of his rapid elevation. We are eager and excited to see him excelling at the highest form of the game. We wish him a long and successful career,” the release ended.
