A man who was brought before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for possession of a narcotic substance on Thursday told the Magistrate that he was “saving it for someone”.
Alan Martin, a 47-year-old father of one, was found was brought before Magistrate Alex Moore charged with being in possession of three grams of cannabis. He accepted the allegations of the charge.
When given the chance to speak in court, the man told the Magistrate that he was sweeping a yard when he found the illicit substance and stored it in a zip lock bag. He alleged that he was keeping it so he could give it to someone who uses it, as he does not smoke.
Martin further alleged that some time later, Police ranks on patrol in the area stopped him and conducted a search and retrieved the drug.
After listening to the explanation, the Magistrate sentenced the defendant to complete 25 hours of community service, which he must complete before or by April 15. The matter will be recalled on April 22 for report.
