Fortune forced out of Cross-Fit title defence this Sunday

By Treiston Joseph

Guyana’s women’s Cross-Fit Champion Alisha Fortune will be unable to defend her title after emergency knee surgery on Thursday evening.
In a telephone interview with Guyana Times Sport, Fortune related that doctors admitted her right away on Thursday after a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test was done on her left knee which showed severe ligament damage.

Fortune who won the inaugural E-Networks Cross-Fit games last year at the National Park Tarmac by amassing 496 points was the main reason behind the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) placing second to the United States of America (USA) in last year’s team competition.
However, Fortune related that it was with great sadness that she will have to pull out of the event set for this Sunday at the National Park Tarmac.
Fortune’s closest competition last year was Rebecca Moore of the USA who amassed 460 points for second; a clear gap between herself and Fortune who is also known for her athletics and bodybuilding prowess.
Whether another Guyanese female can step up to the plate to fill the very big shoes of Fortune is left to be seen.
However, the event will surely miss the competiveness of one of Guyana’s all-round athletes.
