Agriculture Minister Noel Holder while addressing the Food and Agriculture Organisation’s (FAO) Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean, called for speedy action in addressing agricultural issues.

These include barriers to the sector’s development, access to Caribbean Community (Caricom) markets and climate change interventions.
Minister Holder was at the time presenting the Caribbean’s sub-region report on regional and global policy and regulatory matters at the conference held in Mexico City. Minister Holder addressed the forum in his capacity as Chairman of the Caribbean Group of Ministers of Agriculture.
During the one-week ministerial session, Minister Holder held meetings with key officials, including Mexico’s Agriculture Minister on several issues affecting agriculture in the region.
Among the key issues discussed were challenges and perspective for food and nutrition security in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Millennium Development Goals to the Sustainable Development Goals, challenges for transforming the rural sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, and challenges for sustainable use of natural resources among others.
