exercised their franchise in the Local Government Elections (LGE).
At Linden, there were two polling places situated inside the compounds of the Mackenzie and Wismar Police Stations. The polls officially opened at 06:00h, and Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) employees were present. Evidently, there were no long waiting lines, and peace and calm marked the activity.
Speaking with this publication after casting his vote, Police Constable Bakker attached to the Wismar Police Station explained that the process was simple.
Some officers who were required to be at the Linden Magistrate’s Court opted to vote later in the day when their duties there were completed.
E Division (Linden-Kwakwani) Commander Calvin Brutus told this publication that in outlying areas such as Ituni, Kwakwani and Mabura, voting was completed by midday.
He explained that ballot boxes for the polling places at Ituni and Kwakwani were transported on Monday afternoon and were secured at the Kwakwani Police Station. He further explained that some officers stationed at Linden had to be transported to their place of polling so that they could be given the opportunity to vote.
“The others who came from Georgetown last week, they are new and their names are not on this list (at Linden), so we arranged for transportation to take them to Georgetown,” he said.
