D’Edward Cricket Club of West Bank Berbice and Young Warriors of Cumberland, East Canje have become the first two teams to reach the quarter-finals of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) – organised New Building Society Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition.
D’Edward defeated Chesney by 152 thanks to a well composed 76 (6x4s; 4x6s) by Heeralall Bridgelall and Jaipaul Heeralall 52 (4x4s; 3x6s) who spearhead them to 260-9 in their 40-Overs. Off-spinner Devendra Harilall took 5-37 from 8-Overs.
In Chesney’s turn at the crease, pacer Christian France took 3 for 34 and Devindra Lalsa 3 for 2 engineered them to being bowled out for a mere 108 in 18.3 overs. Riaz Ramcharran 35 was the top score.
At Cumberland, Young Warriors beat Friendship Cavaliers by seven wickets; Young Warriors chasing 105 for victory got there with much ease as former Guyana Under-19 player Kassim Khan stroked an unbeaten 42.
When Frendship Cavaliers batted, , left arm spinner Anil Beharry (3-22), Berbice Under-19 off-spinner Amir Khan (3-20) along with Kassim (3-20) picked up three wickets a piece to bowl out the opposition for 104 inside 28 overs. Joshua Leacock (28) and Ryan De Nobrega (22) were the chief runs-makers.
