Ravens, Pacesetters grab big wins

Round of 16 action in the Road to Mecca III National Club Basketball Championship concluded on Sunday with teams delivering blowouts at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
Defending Champs, Trinity Grid Holding (TGH) Pacesetters played their first game of the tournament and tore into the Eagles with an 86-68 victory.

Their up-tempo style of play was too much for the Eagles squad who found it hard to find the bottom of the net.
Nathan Saul shot the ball well for the Pacesetters to finish with 16 points while Joslyn Crawford also had 16 points in the win. Travis Burnett and randy Richards also contributed 13 and 11 points respectively.
Scoring for the eagles came from Travis Belgrave with 15 points while Kevin Wiggins and Mark Wills had 14 and 10 points respectively.
Linden’s Victory Valley Royals (VVR) made their presence felt with a thrilling 72-68 win against Berbice’s Smythfield Rockers.
Trevor Profit dropped 21 points in the win for VVR while Harold Adams and Rawle Beckles had 14 and 12 points respectively.
Michael Bowen had a team high 17 points while Neil Wills scored 14 points in the loss.
The final game of the evening saw Dynas Ravens routing Banker Trust Flacons 83-52 to easily advance to the quarterfinal round.
Raven’s ability to play from the post as well as to run the fast break proved vital in routing of the Falcons.
Rebounding the basketball was also a crucial part of Raven’s game as they put in extra work on the boards.
Dominic Vincente led all scorers with 19 points while Ryan Gullen had 18 points eight boards and five assists. Ryan Stephney was also feeling it form the field and dropped 15 points 11 boards to go along with five assists. Tyrone Hamid also scored 14 points and collected eight rebounds.
Scoring for the Falcons came from Lawrence Simon with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Dale Sauers had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Akeel Primo also scored 11 points to go along with 15 rebounds.
Action in the quarterfinal round will continue on March 11 at the CASH.
