Local star Shemar Britton fell to Kyle Edghill in a competitive 18 years and under boy’s round robin final when the National Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships concluded on Sunday evening at the National Gymnasium.
With a star-studded round robin final featuring Edghill, Britton, Miguel Wong, Elishaba Johnson, Nicholus Romain, Sheldon Atherley, Jamaal Nicholas and Yeudistir Persaud, Edhill played to six wins and one loss to capture the title.
Edghill defeated Britton 3-1, Wong 3-0, Nicholus Romain 3-1, Sheldon Atherley (Bartica) 3-0, Yeudistir Persaud 3-0, Jamaal Nicholas 3-0 and lost to lost to Johnson 1-3.
Britton settled for second losing to Edghill while defeating Wong, Johnson, Romain, Atherley, Persaud and Nicholas.
Third went to Wong he defeated Johnson, Romain, Atherley, Persaud and Nicholas. Fourth place went to Johnson who defeated Edghill, Romain, Atherley, Persaud and Nicholas.
In the junior girls 18 years and under round robin finals Selenas Jackman defeated Nevaeh Clarkston 3-1, Aneka Phillips 3-2 and Dovanna Bess 3-2 to claim the title.
Jackman also took the girls 15 years and under title by defeating Nevaeh Clarkston 3-0 in the final.
The junior Boys 15 years and under round robin final was won by the gifted Nicholus Romain who defeated 11 year old Kaysan Ninvalle who brought second 3-0, Vicente Henery 3-0 and Terrence Rausch 3-0. Second place went to Ninvalle, third to Henry and fourth Rausch.
Ninvalle, however, was dominant in the boy’s 11 and 13 years and under categories winning both titles with 3-0 and 3-1 wins respectively against Dhanesh Persaud and Niron Bissu respectively.
In the 13 years and under girls final: Clarkston defeated Martin 3-0 while the 11 years and under girls was won by Thuraia Thomas who defeated Kassia Liverpool 3-0.
The nine years and under round robin final was won by Colin Wong who defeated, Alexandre DeAbru, Dhanesh Persaud, Christopher Shepperd and Paul David Bess.
Jonathon Van Lange and Tahira Stall were the winners of the Novices male and female categories respectively.
