Damien Vantull struck a belligerent 47-ball 91 to lead Staff to an 89-run victory over Natural Science in the University of Guyana’s Inter-faculty T20 competition.
Playing at the University’s ground, Staff batted a racked up an impressive 209-9 from their allottment of overs. Staff got off to a solid start as Kenroy Joseph and Falim Mohammed put on 63 for the first wicket before Joseph fell just one short of a well-deserved half-century. The right-hander hit eight fours and two sixes.
Staff stuttered a bit, but it was over to the left-handed Vantull, who tore into the Natural Science attack as he smashed eight fours and six sixes. Shemar Muntu was most successful bowler with figures of 3-14 from two overs.
In response, Natural Science were bundled out for 120 from 17 overs, as Muntu top scored with 38 and received support from Treyon Harry with 27.
Eric Benn was the pick of the bowlers for Staff with 4-31 from four overs; Davindra Pantlal took 2-15 and Vantull chipped in 2-21. The competition will continue on Wednesday when Technology play Natural Sciences from 13:00h.
