Neville Phagu, 48, a Guyanese national arrested following the discovery of a quantity of cocaine and marijuana on board a fishing vessel on Wednesday morning last was slapped with eight charges when he made his court appearance in Barbados on Friday.

In addition, Jeffery Callender, 39, a Barbadian was also charged with the same offences. They were jointly charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to supply cocaine, trafficking cocaine, possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply cannabis, and trafficking cannabis. Phagu was additionally charged with importation of cocaine and importation of cannabis. They were both remanded to prison.
It was reported that the discovery was made at the Carlisle Bay (Browne’s Beach), St Michael by the Drug Squad.
According to reports, a total of 122.9 kilograms of cocaine worth BBD$6 million and cannabis weighing 94 kilograms were found in the hold of the boat.
The boat, as well as the illegal drugs were confiscated and the men arrested.
Barbados drug enforcement officers will continue their investigations since they are of the belief that more persons were involved in the drug bust.
