An alleged armed bandit was shot and killed Monday morning by a security guard during an attempted robbery along Second Street, Campbellville, Georgetown.
The dead bandit has been identified as Isaiah Lennox Marques, of of Painlayne, B Field Sophia.
Based on information, Carl Hayne and his sister Rayon Haynes were walking along Second Street, Campbellville, when they were held at gunpoint by the now dead 21-year-old man.
During the ordeal, Haynes and his sister put up a fight and in response the perpetrator pulled the trigger of the firearm but it snapped. At this point, Haynes pulled out his service revolver and discharged a round at the armed bandit hitting him to his abdomen.
The injured perpetrator was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by police who were summoned but Marques was pronounced dead on arrival. He was identified by his father Paul Smith, who noted that his son was last seen alive on Sunday at about 16:00hrs at his grandmother’s residence at Sophia.
An unlicensed .32 revolver was recovered by the police on the perpetrator and an investigation has been launched into the shooting incident.
This newspaper was told that Marques was charged on August 28, 2015 for possession of narcotics. On February 2, 2014, the dead man was slapped with four counts of robbery under arms. Additionally on February 13, 2014 he was charged for breaking and entering and larceny. In 2013, he was charged for robbery under arms.
