With the aim of providing better recreational activities and exposing youngsters to a healthier lifestyle, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCY&S), in collaboration with the National Sport Commission (NSC), on Wednesday hosted a cricket session for schoolchildren between the Haslington and Golden Grove areas.
The three-hour session was held at the Haslington tarmac, East Coast Demerara.
Facilitator of the MCYS cricket development programme, Daniel Richmond, conducted the session which attracted 28 youngsters (25 males and three females).
In an invited comment after the session, Richmond said the fundamental aim of the session was to educate the students on the rudiments of cricket and to aid their development in the game.
Meanwhile, similar sessions are lined up for next month throughout Region Four. The cricket session is part of the Ministry’s and NSC’s mandate to promote the game by giving the youngsters a better understanding of an outlook on the sport. (Rajiv Bisnauth)
