The second Georgetown Softball Cricket League Incorporated’s (GSCL) 12/12 championships will bowl off today at the Everest Cricket Club ground at 10:00h.
Twelve teams, including defending champions Memorex, were placed into four groups and will contest the preliminary rounds of the tournament on a round-robin basis, with the top two teams advancing to the quarter-final, set for next Saturday. The semi-final and final will be played the following day.
Memorex, who were drawn in Group D alongside R1 and Universal DVD Titans, will sit out the first round as the other teams do battle. Memorex will play later in the day.
Trophy Stall, Regal XI and East Coast All Star are in Group A, with Regal XI drawing the bye; Speed Boat, Better Hope and Recharge are the teams competing out of Group B, with Recharge earning the bye and Invaders, Wolf Warriors and Romaine XI battling it out of Group C, with Romaine XI drawing the first round bye.
At the end of the tournament the winner will receive $600,000 and a trophy, with the second place team collecting $200,000 and a trophy.
Apart from the two top teams receiving cash incentives, the man-of-the-series will receive one three-piece living room suite, the best batsman and bowler will each walk away with $5000 and a trophy and the man-of-the-match in the final, $10,000 and a trophy.
Director of Sport within the National Sports Commission (NSC) Neil Kumar is expected to deliver the opening remarks, before the action bowls off with two group matches.
