North Essequibo win ECB 50 overs tournament

North Essequibo defeated East Bank Essequibo by one wicket to win the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) 50-over title on Sunday at the Number One ground, Affiance, Essequibo Coast.

After being invited to bat first in the 30-over match due to rain, East Bank Essequibo were bowled out for 155 in 29.5 overs

Rajiv Balgobin was the main contributor with bat, hitting 41, inclusive of four fours and a six. He received support from Travis Drakes, 24 (2×4, 1×6), and Sheldon Alexander, 16.

Bowling for North Essequibo, Mark Tyrell was the best bowler on show, capturing 3 for 25.

In reply, Suresh Persaud led the way with 56 (4×4, 3×6), as North Essequibo reached 158 for 9 in 29 overs.  Vishnauth Lall made 48 (5×4, 2×6) while Hemant Beharry chipped in with 23.

Hemachan Persaud was the leading wicket taker for the losing team, claiming four wickets.

The competition was used to select the Essequibo team for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) 50 overs tournament.

The other teams that took part in the competition were Bartica, Leguan, Wakenaam, South Essequibo, Central Essequibo and Pomeroon.
