Totaram Seenanand was the star of the day for Universal DVD Club Titans, who romped away winners of the Berbice Softball Alliance (BSA) organised four-team 10/10 softball competition, which was held at the Bath Settlement ground on Wednesday.
In the female exhibition game Blairmont defeated Ithaca by seven wickets, thanks mainly to Sabrina Singh’s impressive bowling performance.
In the first encounter, Karibee Rice faced up with Blairmont Number Four and asked to bat first scored 120-9 from their 10 overs, with Mahendranauth Sooklall 33 (eight balls, 5x6s) and Sharmindra Hardyal 22 (1×4, 1×6) leading the way.
Vijai Farhad took 3-19 and Karamdat Bissoondyal 2-21 for Blairmont Number Four, who were limited to 80-7 with Farhad 15 (1×6, 1×4) and Bissoondyal 10 being the lone batsmen to reach double figures. David Harilall took 2-8 for Karibee Rice.
Universal DVD Club Titans took the field next and faced Blairmont Number One in the virtual semi-final fixture and asked to take first strike, scored an imposing 165-3 from the 10 overs.

This was mainly to skipper Balram Samaroo’s robust 62 (23 balls, 7x6s, 2x4s) and Michael Ramdhial 16-ball 50 (5x6s, 3x4s). The duo added 75 for the first wicket, before Samaroo added 54 for the second wicket with Rameshwar Poonu, who made 24 (3x6s, 10 balls).
Khemraj Kannack took 2-24 for Blairmont Number One, who mustered an embarrassing 16 all out from 8.1 overs with Seenanand taking 3-5 and Poonu 2-1.
Prior to the playing of the third place game and final, Ithaca Girls faced their Blairmont counterparts in an eight-over-a-side affair.
Ithaca batted first and posted 40-5 with extras contributing exactly half the total.
Sabrina Singh took 3-14 for Blairmont Girls, who reached 41-3 from 4.3 overs. Extras again topscored with 17, while Somawatty Kudrathall contributed 11, as the victors took home a trophy and $30,000 and the losers a trophy and $20,000.
In the third place playoff of the male category, Blairmont Number Four batted first with Wazid Subhan’s 55 (16 balls, 7x6s, 1×4), Leon Saroopchand 42 (19 balls, 5x6s) and Bissoondyal’s 41 (16 balls, 5x6s, 1×4) leading them to 170-3 from their 10 overs.
B Basdeo took 2-24 for Blairmont Number One, who were limited to 59-6 in reply, with Sohanlall Bissoondyal topscoring with a run-a-ball 24, while Karamdat Bissoondyal took 2-16 for Blairmont Number Four, who won by 111 runs.
In the final, Universal DVD Club Titans were asked to bat first by a confident Karibee Rice team.
They managed 88-7 from the allotted overs, with Samaroo (25) and Seenanand (19*) leading all scorers.
Leon Gurdyall and Javed Mohamed took three wickets each for 10 and 17 runs respectively for Karibee Rice, who in their turn at the wicket, were bowled out for 39 off 7.1 overs.
Rajendra Sookdeo, Seenanand, Chandrasekhar Arjune and Poonu took wickets each.
The victorious Universal DVD Club Titans line-up took home $70,000 and a trophy, Karibee Rice $30,000 and a trophy and Blairmont Number One and Four teams, a trophy each for their efforts. Seenanand also received a trophy for his performance.
