The tournament was sponsored at the cost of $335,000; the sponsor will also provide coloured T-shirts for the four teams.

Chairman of the Special Events Committee and Public Relations Officer Hilbert Foster stated that the tournament will start on Thursday and will be played on a two-day basis with the first innings restricted to 65 overs.

The four teams are West Berbice, New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower Corentyne and Upper Corentyne.

West Berbice and New Amsterdam/Canje will clash at Bush Lot, West coast Berbice while Lower and Upper Corentyne will play at the Number 69 ground.

The winners of both matches will clash at the Albion Community Centre ground at a date to be decided while the two losing teams will meet at the Port Mourant cricket ground.

Foster stated that the BCB expects the tournament would be of the highest standard, since players like Shawn Pereira, Gudakesh Motie-Kanahai, Romario Shepherd and Shimron Hetmyer would be part of the tournament.

First Vice President of the BCB Anil Beharry expressed gratitude to the sponsor for their continued support and confidence in the Berbice board.

Beharry disclosed that the board will use performances in the tournament to select the Berbice Under-19 Inter-County team.

Regional Manager of Diamond Fire and General Insurance, Philip Kowlessar, handing over the sponsorship cheque, stated that his company enjoys its relationship with the BCB. He praised the board for its organising skills and expressed the hope that the 2013 edition of the tournament would be played in an atmosphere of unity and goodwill.

He also pledged his company’s continued assistance in the future.
