BCB and BCC launch Guyana Independence T20 Cup

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) and the Berbice Chamber of Commerce launched the Guyana Independence T20 Cup last Sunday at the Albion Sports Complex.

According to a release from the BCB, the tournament is scheduled for May 26 at the Albion Sports Complex.

The release further stated that the tournament will feature the two top T20 teams from Demerara and Berbice with the final scheduled to be played under lights.

The release also stated that proceeds from the event will go towards assisting with the development of sports in the region as two first division clubs are earmarked for allocations. In addition contributions will be made to two orphanages and two schools in Berbice and the rehabilitation of the pavilion at Albion Sports Complex while the remainder will go towards the social obligations and community work plans for the two organisations under the Power to Change Programme.

The tournament which is slated as part of the celebrations to mark Guyana’s 47th Independence anniversary will feature high calibre players from the county such as West Indies Test spinners Devendra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul, former West Indies opening batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon, West Indies middle order batsman Assad Fudadin, Rajiv Ivan and who are all expected to light up Albion.

The games will commence from 10:00h and patrons are urged to come out in their numbers to support the mega event. Over $1 million in prizes, trophies and cash will be up for grabs.
