New Guyana Pharmaceutical Company Incorporated (NEW GPC INC), under its popular Limacol brand, has partnered with the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) to stage the annual Under-15 Inter-county competition, which is set to bowl off today at two venues in the country.

This year, the GCB has included a President’s XI, increasing the number of teams to four.
The two-day competition is of utmost importance to the GCB as it is being used by the junior selectors to formulate the Guyana team for the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) Regional under-15 competition later this year.
At a simple launch at the GCB headquarters on Regent Street yesterday morning, executives of NEW GPC INC – the manufacturers of Limacol – were on hand to present the sponsorship cheque and trophies to executives of the board.
Speaking at the ceremony, Marketing Manager Trevor Bassoo, said his company is pleased to partner in the development of cricket, especially at the youth level.
In giving a brief address on the benefits of using Limacol, Bassoo told the youngsters that the product should be a must in their “gear bag”, as its “cooling effect” is perfect for the sweltering condition that currently exist.
“The Limacol brand always assists in sport in general and we are proud to be a major contributor to cricket and the development of cricket,” Bassoo pointed out.
According to Bassoo the company is the Caribbean’s oldest and largest pharmaceutical manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals, and its Limacol is a common item in Guyanese home.
Finance controller of the company, Ravie Ramcharitar, said NEW GPC INC is always happy to support youth development and this is just another means of expressing that interest.
Ramcharitar said the Under-15 level is a critical stage of development, one that the NEW GPC INC feels will help to produce the future Shivnarine Chanderpauls, Ramnaresh Sarwans and Brian Laras of West Indies cricket.
Secretary of the GCB, Anand Sanasie, thanked the company for its support and said the format of the Inter-county is similar to that of the WICB Regional tournament, where bonus points will be awarded to the teams whenever they achieve a particular milestone.
Sanasie added that NEW GPC INC would be given value for its investment, as apart from aiding the process of development, its logo and products would be prominently displayed on the players’ uniforms and at the venues during the tournament.
In the opening games today, Essequibo and Berbice will do battle at the Enmore Community Center ground, while Demerara will face the President’s XI at the Everest Cricket Club, ground. Both matches will start at 10:00h.
