The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) has decided on eight athletes thus far for the junior Carifta Games to be held in The Bahamas from March 29 to April 1.
Spearheading the team will be World junior 400m silver medalist Kadecia Baird. Joining Baird will be her teammate from Medgar Ever College and former local star, Ashley Tasher, as both will be featured in the sprint events at the games.
The local aspect will see 1500m sensation Cassey George, along with two-time Carifta 1500m gold medalist Jevina Straker heading the distance department, while for the sprinters, under-17 female sprinter Tirana Mitchell, Jason Yaw and Avon Samuels have been selected. Triple jumper/sprinter Alita Moore is the other athlete selected.
President of the AAG, Aubrey Hutson, also disclosed that a ninth person from the United States will be named to the team, and the decision on who that person is will be made this morning.
