A young man was on Thursday refused bail by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton for stealing a gold ring.
Denzel Smith, 19, of Lot 155 Sunflower Street, South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown, made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to the charge of simple larceny.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on January 24 at 23 Princes Street, Lodge, Georgetown, he stole one gold ring valued $26,000 from the virtual complainant (VC), Lester Jackson.
Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail stating that the defendant gave the court and the police two different addresses. The prosecutor said that the defendant gave the police an address of Lot 6 Tucville Square, Georgetown.
The defendant who was unrepresented in court made a bail application stating that the police had asked him for his mother’s address that was why he gave them that address.
The magistrate remanded the young man to prison until February 3 when he will make an appearance in Court One.
