A teenager was on Thursday granted bail by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton for stealing in excess of $700,000 in cash and jewellery.
Lisa McCloud, 19 of Lot 20 Blueberry Hill, Linden, made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to the charge of simple larceny.
The accused was not required to plead to the charge, which stated that between January 21 and 22 at Aroaima, Berbice, she stole a quantity of gold jewellery and cash amounting to a total of $720,000 property of the virtual complainant (VC), Aubrey Samuels.
The defendant was unrepresented in court and made an application for bail.
Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield had no objections to bail but asked that it be granted in a substantial amount.
The magistrate informed the court that bail would be granted in the sum of $250,000. McCloud would make her next court appearance on February 17 at the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court.
